One of the main objectives of the NCAS Information Resource Department
(IRD) is to efficiently provide access to quality information
resources, irrespective of format and location, and facilitate
information transfer using innovative technologies. Currently,
IRD provides information services via its Intranet as follows.
Access
to on-line full-text databases
The IRD facilitates access to information resources mainly through
its electronic databases subscibed under the aegis of International
Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP)
and SAREC project of the University of Colombo. You may access
the database through the link of "Databases".
Document Delivery
Services
Document delivery facility is available from British Library through
the Country Coordinator of the INASP Programme. If you need to
obtain scholarly articles from the British Library, please consult
your Consultant Librarian for more information.
Information Literacy
Services
In order to enhance users' information literacy skills, introductory
tutorials and help guides have been developed. You can access
these turotials through the link of "Literacy" for basic
knowledge on searching, and analysing information for your learning/research
endeavor.
Search engine service
You may access variety of search engines such as Scholarly Search
Engines (SSE), Meta Search Engines (MSE) and News Search Engines
(NSE) based on your purpose of information searching through the
sub-link available in the "Literacy" link.
Information
Gateways
Currently IRD provides only one information gateway termed Eldis
Gateway to Development Information. You may access this by the
link of "Gateways".
e-Books and Newspaper
information service
You may get access to leading newspapers and e-Books collections
at "Other Links".
