Director's Corner The objective of this webpage is multipurpose. As its name ‘Director's Corner' signifies, it gives some flexibility to me, as the Director, to post whatever I believe useful for the readers within the confines of academic objectives of the NCAS. This ‘flexibility' however is not aimless. Subjectively speaking, I feel that as I am nearing my retirement age, that I should try to transmit my experiences, as a senior academic as well as an academic administrator, to the new generation, for whatever they are worth. Objectively speaking, Sri Lanka needs more and more web pages and columns to pool academic and information material for the benefit of not only academics but also policy makers and the general public at large to understand the ongoing realities and undercurrents that they are faced with or involved in. This webpage will contain the following, apart from this home page: · Articles on research · Teachig material that I have used · Thoughts on economic development · Articles on politics · Random thoughts · Stories, to mean important or humerous expereinces · Profile ‘Random Thoughts' are something I would maintain to make, not so constructive' or ‘measured' thoughts, nevertheless believing that they will help to stimulate some thinking. This section is also something anyone can log on and raise questions or make comments. I reserve the right to edit or disregard them depending on the relevance. However, the official queries to the NCAS or to the Director should not post here. Those should be emailed. Comments on the ‘Random Thoughts' should limit to academic or similar matters. I sincerely thank Mr. Sampath Chandrasena for setting up this webpage with extreme competence. Professor Laksiri Fernando Director
